Electric fireplace logs

If I can find just one second of that story I figure I did my job.
Steinman displays his work online and had pieces included in Marion Popcorn Festivals Juried Art Show, displayed at City Hall during the three-day festival.
Among portraits of babies and family members his favorites are the memorials, such as a drawing of his father-in-law, Richard Edler, who died on March 31, 2007.
That picture was also the hardest for the north-side Marion artist, who said it was an emotional drawing to complete.
It had to be perfect, said Betty Steinman, Johns wife. The drawing hangs in the couples living room.
Betty and John said the memorials are often reminders to the living to do just that, live. It also helps people cling to the past.
Thats why the memorials seem so much to me, said John. Isnt that what everybody wants, is immortality?
While not a memorial portrait, another favorite piece is Lost, which features a nude woman sitting in a hallway with a look of despair on her face. Betty was the inspiration for that piece as she sat in front of the fireplace the week that her dad died.
You could see that feeling of loss in her face, said John as he described the drawing. Its how you feel, vulnerable, naked. You are totally out of control.
He said he chose the hallway setting because the glow of the fireplace would give it a sense of sensuality that he did not intend.
John tends to draw mostly people, though he also does an occasional scenic picture. He said he prefers charcoal pencils because they are easy to use.
When drawing a portrait, which he often does by looking at a photo of the subject, he said he tries to learn about their hobbies, interests and anything else he can learn about the person.
I dont want to draw the image of the person, he said. I want to capture the person in the drawing themselves
